Jon and Cake Plus 8

Jon turns 8 so soon, since I've been spending so much time with them it's been making me so sad to think about how fast they are growing up. They now know when I'm fibbing to them instead of innocently believing me and saying "really?". They no longer need my help with anything, because they can do it themselves. And worst of all...they have more money in their wallets then I do...how does an 7 year old make money?

Score!

Today is Sunday...I remember, I remember (note previous What Day is it post). The flea market was today in Jefferson and I scored some good deals. I got all of the following for $8

1 bunch of basil (now I can can some more spaghetti sauce)
3 zucchini
6 ears of corn
2 red peppers
1 hot glue gun
1 pack of pencils

I also sold $60 worth of stuff that had just been collecting dust in our basement, including a camera from about 7 years ago....two camera's ago....and the Jack Lalanne juicer I thought would be a good present for Kurt many winters ago. All in all it was a great day topped of by a wonderful get-together for my nephew's b-day. Happy Early Birthday Jon!!!!

That's Amore!

Tonight I canned my second batch of my summer spaghetti sauce, tons of fresh garlic, red pepper, basil and oregano. It will taste so much better then a can of Ragu in the middle of winter. I think this will be my last batch since this cold/wet spell has pretty much ended my fresh basil supply.

What!...a job...in my field?

I actually found a job in my field (printing) to apply for today...now that's means for a celebration.

Michael's Coupons 8/30-9/5

I just got these coupons from Michael's....check out the Martha Stewart one, it's even good on sale items...which would be especially helpful if her stuff ever went on sale;-)

Easy Coasting

Here are some coasters I made this week, I just sold two sets of these at the flea market in Lake Mills. These are fairly easy to make and they really last. I have a set I made over 5 years ago and they are still coasting. If anyone is intersted in learning how to make these let me know and I will make a tutorial.

What day is it?

I'm sure if you've been unemployed or had a long vacation this summer you've asked that question on at least one occasion. I ask that question almost every day;-)

Old Navy Stuff and Save Sale

With our trip to disney just around the corner (10 days...but who's counting;-), I figured I would check out what was on sale at Old Navy today. I got a flyer saying they would give me a free tote and everything I could fit in it I got 20% off when you pay with your Old Navy Card. The sale goes through Sept. 10 so check it out, you can also get the deal online and get free shipping by using code STUFF75. I found a new pair of pj's and a cute printed tee, and of course my cute free tote.

Here fishy-fishy-fishy.

Jon not having much luck on the open waters of Lake Ripley. He's still a little bitter after catching two 14"+ basses a couple days ago only to have the line break each time while bringing them in. Don't worry bud we were all there and saw it happen, we know you weren't telling a "fish story".

Here's Jake's prize catch, we threw him back so he can get bigger. Maybe next year we will catch him again. Note his legs.....that's our Jake always managing to get himself dirty. I'm sure he could get dirty in a tub of water.

Mom, I'm Thirsty!

In order to save my sister the hassel of having to carry thirstification for my two nephews the whole week we are in Florida, I created these water bottle holders for them to sling over their shoulders. We already tested them out yesterday during a beautiful walk at Dorothy Carnes Park outside Fort Atkinson. Check out this link to see how I made them. I did not add a snap like they did, and I used 45" each of the belt fabric.

Oh Me, Oh My, It's a Fabric Pumpkin Pie!!

Here are the super cute and easy pumpkins I made this morning, you can grab the pattern here. I love the browns and reds of the fabrics I picked out for the front 3 pumpkins

Thanks Erin!!!

Hy-Vee

I just got an automated email about interviews for a position I applied for at a new grocery store opening on the east side of Madison. So looks like sometime next week I get to try for the part-time floral department opening!!! At least it's something!

My First Post!!!

Welcome to my first blog....ever!!

Basically I'm saying bear with me. I was recently layed off from a job that I worked my @ss off at, but with this economy even the hardest of workers can find a pink-slip waiting for them. This blog will be my way of venting a little of my frustrations, showing others some things I am doing to save money while on a limited income and show off some of my crafts I've been making in my "free" time.

Today I finished off some fabric pumpkins that I'm going to see if my Grandma can sell at a local farmers market, I will get some pictures loaded soon. I need to finish making my nephew's water bottle holders for Disney so they can carry their own bottles and I'm going to make some more travertine stamped coasters yet too.....busy day!
